Dr. Florian Schlotter joined Prof. Elena Aikawa’s group at CICS in November 2015. He is a graduate of the Medical School of the University of Leipzig/ Germany. After graduation from university in 2012, he started training as an internist and cardiologist at the Department of Internal Medicine/Cardiology at the Heart Center, University of Leipzig/Germany. Dr. Schlotter worked on research projects that include calcific aortic valve disease and the effects of exercise training on cardiovascular disease models, besides his activities as a clinical researcher in the research group of Prof. Axel Linke at the Heart Center, University of Leipzig/Germany. His doctoral thesis won the award of the Procordis association in the category ‘best PhD thesis’. He focuses primarily on the detection of novel targets and treatment options for valvular calcification.
