Fukuoka, Keita

Dr. Keita Fukuoka studied molecular biology with a focus on the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway and enrolled in his master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences at Kyoto University under the supervision of Professor Hideaki Kakeya. After graduation, he joined Kowa Company, Ltd., where he investigated cancer and calcification and established a cell-based assay system. In 2020, he had the opportunity to conduct research in Department of Metabolic Medicine at University of Osaka and completed his Doctorate in 2024 under the supervision of Drs. Iichiro Shimomura and Shunbun Kita. His research explored the relationship between ER stress and exosome production, and he demonstrated that exosome production decreases under ER stressed conditions both in vitro and in vivo.

Dr. Fukuoka joined CICS in February 2026 under the mentorship of Professor Elena Aikawa, where he is currently pursuing the discovery of new therapeutic targets for calcific aortic valve disease.
