Weiss, Luisa
Dr Luisa Weiss obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biosciences and Hematology in 2017 from Fresenius University of Applied Sciences in Germany, where she was funded through a prestigious scholarship from the German government. Following graduation, Luisa obtained her Masters of Science in Biological and Biomolecular Science in 2018 from University College Dublin, Ireland, graduating top of her class. Luisa went on to pursue her PhD in Biochemistry and Hematology in the SPHERE Research Group at University College Dublin under the supervision of Prof Patricia Maguire, graduating in 2021. She was funded through pharmaceutical industry and her PhD research focused on the effect of anticoagulants on extracellular vesicle (EV) profiles. Having secured additional industry funding, Luisa pursued 3 years of postdoctoral research in the same research group, investigating the involvement of platelets and EVs in inflammatory diseases such as preeclampsia, multiple sclerosis and hematologic cancers through proteomics advanced molecular biology and artificial intelligence/machine learning.
Luisa joined CICS in October 2024, and will investigate the role of platelets in aortic valve calcification under the mentorship of Prof. Aikawa.
